J.R. SMITH’S POWER CYCLE CAMP 2011/2012

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

For those of you just joining JR Smith’s Power Cycle Camp, welcome! I believe this will be the best group training experience you will have. At our annual orientation meeting, our training team will review the program and answer any questions you have. Until then, I hope this overview will give you enough information about how our program works.

The program consists of four distinct training phases: Base/Strength, VO2/Anaerobic Capacity, Lactate Threshold and Competition. Participants are tested individually to determine which training category best suits their ability level. The categories are defined as Sport, Expert, and Elite. Participants can go to any class, since all categorized workout protocols can be taught in the same class. All participants will be individually tested to determine their training categories on lab model Computrainers and Cycle Ops Power Meter bikes. The test will determine the participant’s heart rate training zones and power-to-weight ratio. This categorization lets riders of all abilities participate in the program and get the same benefit of structured workouts to maximize their performance.

We will hold two seminars this year (one near the beginning of camp and one towards the end of camp) covering a wide range of topics such as training, nutrition and sports medicine. Our speaker lineup will include noted experts in their field on these subjects. We will also be adding an optional coached strength training program two days a week for the duration of the 4-phase periodized program.

Registration for the program will begin on Oct. 3rd, 2011 and the first class will start on November 14th, 2011. Classes end on March 17th, 2012. Please register early as we have limited space and usually fill all available slots prior to the start of Power Cycle Camp. Also, just a reminder to schedule your testing as soon as possible after you register to ensure you will get a time slot that fits in your schedule.

In addition to our standard four month program, we offer a Power Cycle Camp Extension program, which consists of three intense workouts per week for the period from March 19th, 2012 thru April 13th, 2012. Openings are very limited due to limited class times, so please register early if you are interested. The workouts are also be based on Sport, Expert, and Elite categories and is limited to participants of the regular Power Cycle Camp program.

I can’t say enough about the quality of our coaching staff in the area of specificity expertise as well as practical application of the workout protocols to help make your workouts more productive and emphasize our philosophy of training smart.
